back in november arabian blade and family treasures rolled down to delaware to play a gig, which was pretty fucking epic by the way. the next day ab's donovan fazzino and i broke out out our flower electronics little boy blue synthesizers for a boyz-only session. out of that knob-twisting, cross-patching sit down came these two solar molars. the boyz are back in town for the first time, all over again. |

i know parents aren't supposed to pick a favorite child, but i'm just gonna flat out say it. this is the best shit ever. arabian blade and joe breitenbach do everything right, tip-toeing through fields of modulation and pastoral tonality. whether its coming from a dg 20 or home made oscillator, it hits you in just the right way. i couldn't think of a pairing i'd rather see, and i'm being 99% honest when i say that. both acts drop 45 minutes without a second going to waste. |

905.88: MATTHEW RILEY "CRESTABUTTE" C92
matthew riley is a dude who used to live in delaware, but not resides somewhere in the woods of pennsylvania. i ran into him at a the cluster show in baltimore last year and caught up a bit. he gave me a copy of a cdr that he released called "let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees" that had this gorgeous hand-made packaging, and upon listening, an even sicker sound. i asked him to do a 905er, and crestabutte is the result. matthew recorded a swampy slush of layered guitar(?) and field recordings(?) over a bootleg of a 1989 jerry garcia band set, leaving the original recording in tact. sometimes jgb peers in through matt's droning, and when he is done, garcia and company round out the tape. the cover for crestabutte is actually a carbon copy of the tape he recorded over, coffee stain and all. high art. |

905.73: FORBES GRAHAM "BRAVE GRAVE #1: TRUMPET" C92
brave grave is going to be an ongoing cassette experiment where artist choose a single instrument and proceed to shred, wail, or do whatever category of thrashing they so desire on that instrument for as long as they possibly can. little to no effects will be used, and there will be no editing at all after the session has run it's course. a raw exercise in endurance, tolerance, and curiosity. i'm beyond stoked to have forbes graham starts things off here, as we go way back, and i've always admired him as an artist. graham's weapon of choice for brave grave #1 is the trumpet, an instrument he has provided on recordings to dozens and dozens of artists all over the musical spectrum (the flying lutenbachers, erase errata, daughters, infidel?/castro!, raqib hassan to name a few) as well as his former group kayo dot. forbes hammers through two 45 minute sessions, blaring out nola jazz, lost lung noise, and what sounds like he is hitting a bong. holy shit. |
